Happy New Year from Our President

Happy New Year to you and yours! I am expecting great things in 2015!

I am on the third day of my annual 10 day water fast. "No food" puts you in a very introspective place. In the past, I have dedicated this small act of discipline to the wonderful children my wife Carrie and I support in Africa; kids who know nothing but starvation and pain. This experience has changed my thoughts and intentions. I have stopped asking God "why" and started asking "how." How can I make a difference in these lives?

This year I include "Chip's Kids" in my "dedication fast." I see the face of tiny Scott and the terror that must have been in his eyes during his final moments. Eyes that scream "please help!"

This is why we do what we do.

Let us stop asking God "why" and started asking "how?" We can't control the past. However, we can control the present? And I know that...if we can find a big enough "why," we will always find the "how."

I so grateful to Chip and Lisa for creating this opportunity. I am so grateful to have all of you as partners. Shoulder to shoulder let us join in this grand obsession. We will make a difference. We are the healing blood that flows to an infected area of our bodies. We are the river that brings life to a wilderness.

Let us "turn tragedy into triumph."

For there are millions of Scotts out there. Our goal is to find them and let them know that they too are loved. Our goal is to give them the tools for a great life. Our goal is to turn their pain into "possibilities." We have been handed the baton and we must run with it; for it is indeed a race. It is a race to catch these kids before the misguided elements of our world hardens their hearts and infects their minds. For deep in our hearts we know that when we help these kids, we help ourselves.

How blessed we all are to be on this path!

And so, as we step into 2015, let us again recognize "why we do what we do." Recognize it as a gift rather than a burden. Let us all "open our whys" and see a better world... A world that lets Chip's Kids know that they are needed and filled with infinite potential.

Onward!

With much gratitude,

John Schalter
