The Power of One

Let's be honest. The world can be an overwhelming place. There is always so much to do and so little time to do it. As we step through our lives, it seems that we are constantly being pulled in different directions. We feel overwhelmed and out of control.
This can be frustrating, immobilizing and even paralyzing.
Here is the solution. Return to the cadence of your breathing. You see... breathing is our great teacher. It not only energizes our bodies, it feeds our souls
Breathing shows us the power of one! Have you ever taken two breaths at a time? Of course not! It seems that in our world of "multi-tasking" we have lost our deep sense of the incredible "power of one." It is the beauty and elegance of doing a single task at a time. It is the beauty and elegance of mindfulness.
I have a ritual I do every morning that exercises what I call my "mindfulness" muscle. I look at the second hand of my watch for 60 seconds and experience it's "one-ness." I think only of the second hand and nothing else...as it slows ticks around the numbers. Outside thoughts always interrupt, however, I gently return to the second hand. It feels incredible. For that short period of time, I am focused and mindful.
Mother Teresa also taught this lesson. She realized that you save the world "one person at a time." However, these "single acts" quickly explode into millions as we inspire others to do the same.
At the St. Clair Butterfly Foundation we understand and believe in the "power of one." It is the heartbeat of this organization. We are committed to ending abuse and giving the gift of empowerment "one child at a time." In doing so, we inspire others and move more effortlessly to the cadence of life.
Let us all understand, experience and even teach...the incredible power of one!
And when in doubt...remember to breathe!
With love and passion,
John J. Schalter
